SCOTT OWEN

Through playful yet quiet interior and still life paintings Sydney artist Scott Owen explores personal space and the idea of thresholds, barriers we build to separate our private life from our social life. Almost all the paintings feature windows, which have come to represent social inclusion and connection to community.

Like previous bodies of work there is a strong emphasis on light and shadow play, with this exhibition seeing the artist push chromatic values furthers, with a more inventive use of colour and mark-making.

Scott completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at the National Art School Sydney in 2015, and was selected as a finalist in the York Botanic Art Prize 2020 and the Eutick Memorial Still life Award in 2019. As of 2020 he has also been teaching painting classes at the North Sydney Community Centre.
