ALEX SCHEIBNER

Sculptor & blacksmith Alex Scheibner was born in Sydney in 1977 and currently works from his forge in Rylstone NSW.

Working with both new and reclaimed materials, Scheibner’s work explores the embedded narratives evident in ‘found’ pieces of steel, whilst adding to their visual stories with new, hand forged and fabricated elements. Principally exploring themes of time, decay and renewal, through the distortion and manipulation of metal, his work often draws on the influence of his time working in underground mines and utilises pieces of scrap metal found in the coal mines.

His recent work ventures into new territory juxtaposing materials such as bright acrylic, marble and bronze with Corten and Mild Steel, the contrasting materials signifying dualities such as light and dark, day and night, above and below ground. Scheibner has also recently been exhibiting his work as an oil painter, his paintings are predominately landscape and still life.

His sculptures can be seen in public art collections in Mudgee, Lithgow, Camden and Hornsby, along with private collection in Australian and overseas. As a maker of historic objects his work can be seen in public collections including the National Museum of Australia, Hyde Park Barracks, Goat Island and on film including Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3, Matrix 3 and a sequel to Chronicles of Narnia.

Alex holds two trades as a Blacksmith and Mechanical fitter.
