UNDER THE SAME SKY
Elouise Roberts & Isabelle Devos
1 - 3 December 2025
In Under The Same Sky, painters Isabelle Devos and Elouise Roberts offer parallel journeys through the landscapes of regional New South Wales—works rooted in careful observation yet shaped by their own distinct aesthetics and emotional rhythms. Spending time together across the greater Tamworth region, from Nundle to Chaffey Dam and the Liverpool Plains, the artists approach the land as a place of resonance: a keeper of memory, stillness, and quiet change.
Their paintings speak to one another, sharing a deep attentiveness to place while opening different pathways into the landscape’s emotional terrain. Under The Same Sky becomes both an exploration and a reflection on belonging—on feeling the land’s stillness, hearing its echoes, and carrying its presence within.
Isabelle Devos distills the essence of a place—an open road, a distant treeline—into quietly poetic compositions shaped by light, time, and lived experience. Her work draws viewers into the subtle space between presence and absence, solitude and story.
Elouise Roberts brings an intuitive, energetic sensibility to her landscapes. Her layered, luminous surfaces echo the rhythms of the natural world and the emotional responses it stirs. Through shifting atmospheres and evolving palettes, Roberts captures the landscape in motion—those moments where weather, memory, and experience converge.
Elouise Roberts Evening, Chaffey Dam 2025
Elouise Roberts - “It was a valuable opportunity to have a change from my usual practice and familiar landscapes. I enjoyed being able to take time to sit and observe a new environment over an extended period. From our accommodation we had an amazing view across Chaffey Dam, Isabelle and I were able to sit on the veranda and complete some small works en plein air and take many photos as the light changed. I was particularly inspired by the colours of the early mornings and evenings.
On returning to my studio, I used the resources gathered from our trip to create paintings, mostly of the Nundle area.
While I work from photographs, I also draw on memory and the feeling of being in the place I am depicting.”
Isabelle Devos Quiet Skies Over The Water 2025
Isabelle Devos - “My friend and fellow artist Elouise and I had a wonderful time exploring landscapes and places we were unfamiliar with.
Not exotic or very far from home. Not expensive or hard to get to.
We sought to find the quiet poetry that is around us. The places that could be just around the corner or down a road you’ve never been on.
We had no plans but just found ourselves exploring with a sense of curiosity while looking deeply. We painted and drew and sat and observed.”
